MAKE! Inca Soap Scultpures!

Impress your mates with these cool carvings!

What you’ll need...

Bar of colourful soap
Pencil
Lolly sticks
Scissors
Paintbrush
Beads/jewels
Bowl of water

1. Take a colourful bar of soap (the more brightly coloured it is, the better!), then use a pencil to mark out the design of your carving on it. Incas often sculpted faces, but it’s up to you!

2. Once you have your design, you need to make a tool to carve out your pattern. So take
a lolly stick and carefully use your scissors to cut it at an angle. Ask an adult to help with this bit!

3.Using your new carving tool, etch out your pattern slowly along the pencil lines. Carefully wipe away any shavings stuck on your tool. For any detailed parts, use your pencil.

4. Once finished, smooth off the rough edges with your hands. If there are any pointy bits, just wet your fingers and smooth them down. Blow off any loose shavings on the sculpture.

5. Now you’re ready to make your sculpture shine! Using a dab of water and a brush, take some jewels and gems and stick them to your sculpture.

Now you have your very own piece of ancient Inca treasure. Sparkling!
