Interview with Brave star Kelly Macdonald!
To celebrate the release of Disney.Pixar’s ace new animation Brave, we caught up with Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald - the voice a princess called Merida in the movie!

NG Kids – Hi Kelly! How does it feel to be the star of a new Pixar movie?
Kelly Macdonald – It feels very exciting, but a little bizarre. I feel really privileged to be part of the movie, but I don’t know how it happened. It’s all been a bit of a blur!
NGK – How would you describe Merida?
KM – Merida is a teenage Scottish princess who loves the outdoors. She’s very independent and strong-willed, but she’s also a bit of a rebel.

KM – No way! I was a good girl, but I didn’t really have very much to rebel against. There weren’t too many rules in my home when I was growing up. I guess I was lucky in that respect!
NGK – Are you adventurous like Merida?
KM – I wasn’t like Merida when I was a teenager. She’s very adventurous, outdoorsy and energetic - I wasn’t. I preferred to stay indoors rather than venture outside. Even now, I prefer to watch movies rather than heading out into the woods.

KM – My son has a bow and arrow with a sucker at the end, so I’ve given it a go but I’m not a natural. Mark Andrews, the director of the Brave, is the bow and arrow guy of this movie. He’s amazing at it. He’s always hitting the bullseye!

NGK – Can you give us some career advice, Kelly? What would you say to youngsters who want to follow in your footsteps and act?
KM – I’m not very good at advice, but I think it’s very important to follow your dreams. I had no big plans to get into acting. I had a feeling that I might be good at it and was interested enough, but I think I was very lucky to get this far.

NGK – How did you get your big break?
KM – I just turned up for an audition many years ago and everything seemed to fall into place. It’s been like The X Factor for me. I got called back again and again – and it was bizarre, but wonderful. If you think you’ve got something then you should go for it. Follow your dreams, everyone!
NGK - Thanks Kelly!
