Wonderful writer
She’s one of NG Kids’ favourite authors, so we were very excited to catch up with super storyteller, Jacqueline Wilson...
NG Kids Hi Jacqueline! Can you tell us a bit about your new book, Little Darlings?
Jacqueline Well, it’s about two very different girls. Destiny lives with her mum on a run-down estate, whereas Sunset is the daughter of a rock star and lives in a huge mansion. But when the two girls meet, they find they have more in common than they thought!
NGK Would you like Little Darlings to be turned into a TV series like The Story Of Tracy Beaker?
Jacqueline That would be fantastic! Each time I write something I get caught up in the world of the story, but after it’s published, I often wonder what will happen to it. So, we’ll have to wait and see...
NGK When did you first realise that you wanted to be a writer?
Jacqueline When I was six, I had my tonsils out, and the doctor asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I said a writer. I’ve always written!
NGK How do you get ideas for your characters and story lines?
Jacqueline Coming up with ideas is like a grown-up way of playing the imaginary games I used to love as a kid. I find making up characters fun – it’s thinking of the story line that’s the tricky bit!
NGK Of all the books you’ve written, who’s your favourite character?
Jacqueline I wrote a Victorian book last year called Hetty Feather, and I’m very fond of her because she’s got a lot of spirit. In fact, I liked her so much that I’m thinking about writing a sequel soon!
NGK What will your next book be about?
Jacqueline I’ve just written a book about a girl who’s obsessed with whales. Plus, I’ve just started on the first chapter of a new book, but it’s top secret!
